5. Arugam Bay
By many this is surfing Mecca, and it is often compared to Kuta in Bali. With its fishing port and surrounding villages around the bay this is the most mellow and traveller and surf friendly place. Arugam Bay is also suited for long board surfing thanks to its right-hand point break with consistently small peelers It is also called the best wave in Sri Lanka mainly because it breaks over a reef and offers several fast sections and some incredibly long rides. Arugam Bay, or precisely a few hours south of it, is a safari in Yala National Park which is basically a must see, especially if you have a day off surfing.
